Shocking diagram claims to show exactly how much sugar goes into a jar of Nutella – and you’ll be AMAZED

A Reddit user has released an image claiming to show the exact proportions of the ingredients in your favourite chocolate spread

A REDDIT user has released an image claiming to show the amount of sugar in each jar of Nutella.

The picture shows a glass jar, which would usually be full of Nutella, packed with the individual ingredients: palm oil, skim milk powder, cocoa, hazelnuts and sugar.

Each of the layers reportedly contains the proportion of each ingredient in a jar of the popular spread and it is almost half filled with sugar.

User MrFlow uploaded the image to Reddit this week and it has already been upvoted 28,700 times.

A spokesperson said: “We don’t disclose the full proportions of the ingredients in Nutella as our recipe is unique and we wish to safeguard this.

“The product’s label provides simple and clear nutritional information per 15g portion, or two heaped teaspoons, as well as per 100g.  The ingredients are also listed on the Nutella website.”

 does confirm that they use palm oil, sugar, hazelnuts, cocoa, milk, lecithin and vanillin in the jars of the chocolatey spread.

The nutritional information is also available on the jars and website, and reveals there are 8.5g of sugar in every 15g tablespoon of the spread, which works out to be 227.2g per every 400g jar – more than half of the total weight.

In a statement Ferrero, Nutella's manufacturer told The Sun Online: “One of Ferrero’s core nutritional beliefs is that small portion sizes help people to enjoy their favourite foods in moderation.

“The labelling on all our products enables consumers to make informed choices and helps ensure that Nutella can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.”

The website states: "Spreading Jam (13g) and standard butter (10g) on a piece of toast would mean eating 8.2g of fat, of which 5.2g is saturated, and 10.5g sugar.

"Whereas a serving of Nutella contains 4.7g fat of which 1.7g is saturates and 8.5g of sugar.
