has resurfaced of a staff member making gravy in her local
KFC, and it’s not a pretty picture.
Back in 2021, Channel 4 was granted a sneak peek into the inner workings of KFC in Chorley and Buckshaw.
The team were preparing for a busy Christmas, and gravy was a top priority for their customers.
Staff member Anne invited the cameras to watch her produce 200 litres of gravy a day.
The process begins with Anne stirring bits of off-cut chicken and meat juices, pressing the remains through a sieve to make the base.
The sludgy ingredients slap and stick against the sieve, and it looks more like swamp water than a delicious sauce.
After whisking the unappetising mixture, she spoons it into a big see-through tub of hot water and meat residue.
She puts the put in a giant microwave and heats it through to thicken it.
Hundreds of people have shared their thoughts on the clip, now available on YouTube.
One user wrote: “That gravy looks like what came out of my Doberman when it got hold of my curry one time.”
And a second said: “This video is the reason I refuse to ever eat KFC in my lifetime.”
But Anne’s insight isn’t all we’ve discovered about the secret recipe.
Back in 2020, another KFC worker claimed that the gravy is made with bits of chicken “which come off the fryer”, and they put people off for life.
According to the staff member, the fast food chain uses off cuts and meat juices from the fryer after it “goes to the bottom”.
The juices are stored in the fridge before hot water is added and given a good stir.
A special seasoning is then added to give it flavour and thicken it up.
It’s then heated for nine minutes before being strained through a sieve and poured into little red pots.
The worker claims the pots are stored for six hours before they’re heated again and delivered to hungry customers.
Some people say they’ll ‘never ever have KFC again’ and ‘I wish I never saw this’, but we’ll let you make up your own mind as that iconic gravy burger is so popular, it won’t be leaving anytime soon.
