Mary Berry’s 10 minute autumnal tomato soup with surprising secret ingredient
AS the temperature begins to drop you might be craving something tasty and comforting - and Mary Berry has got the perfect thing for it.
The cooking sensation's tomato soup recipe can be made in just 10 minutes and it's perfect for chilly autumn and winter days.
There are only four steps to follow to make the easy recipe, which Mary shared with .

“In fact, it is one of her family's favourite recipes, as she always has the ingredients in the cupboard.
"With no onions to chop or tomatoes to skin, it really is ready in 10 minutes," the recipe's description reads.

Ingredients
- Six sun-dried tomatoes in oil
- Two garlic cloves, crushed
- Three x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
- 500ml chicken or vegetable stock
- One tbsp caster sugar
- 150ml full-fat milk
- 150ml double cream
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 3 tsp pesto, to serve
Method
Step one: You'll need a fairly large and deep pan for this recipe, set one on a medium heat before adding one tablespoon for oil directly from the sun-dried tomatoes.
Follow with this the garlic and fry until it begins to colour slightly - this should only take a few seconds.
Step two: Add in the sun-dried as well as the tinned tomatoes, stock and sugar and wait it begin to boil.

Adding sugar helps to bring out the flavour of the tomatoes and helps balance their acidity.
Make sure to stir constantly and the salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Cover with a lid and reduce the heat, then leave to simmer for 10 minutes.
Step three: After 10 minutes you can remove the pan from the heat.
Use a hand blender to to blend the coup in this pan until smooth.
Next, mix in the milk and cream, season with more salt and ground black pepper and heat on the hob to eat.
Step four: Marry Berry suggests serving the soup with a splash of basil pesto, but you could also top it with crunchy croutons or a swirl of cream.
You can store the soup in the fridge for three days, or you can portion it up and pop them in the freezer so you can have homemade soup on hand.
Just reheat until hot and stir in the milk and cream before digging in.
