Aldi’s £7 rose wine ‘tastes exactly the same’ as £26 Whispering Angel – and it’s perfect for the heatwave
WITH scorching temperatures expected over the next few weeks, many of us will be looking forward to soaking up the last of the summer sun with a tipple in the garden.
And there’s surely no drink more fitting for a warm summer’s evening than a gorgeous rosé.
Even better for wine lovers, one savvy shopper has found an Aldi bottle that tastes exactly like the pricey Provençal rosé.
The only difference is Aldi’s version will set you back just £7, compared to the £26 price tag on Whispering Angel.
Lucy, who owns her own vino cooler business , regularly shares her take on the most boojee booze around with her 46,000 TikTok followers.
In a recent , she said: “If you love Provençal rosés like Whispering Angel, you are going to want to run, not walk to Aldi.”
But because it originates just outside of the Provence region, it means you dodge the price premium that producers add to their drinks simply because of where they’re based.
It’s a blend of the exact same three grapes you’ll likely find in a Provence-style rosé – samsó, grenache and syrah - meaning the taste is almost indistinguishable.
“I’m getting this really vibrant burst of red berries,” Kate describes while smelling the vino. “I can smell strawberries, and maybe raspberries.”
After tasting the drink, she had a pretty straight-forward verdict: “Wow.”
“It’s got this amazing crips acidity that you would expect from a Provence-style rosé,” she explains to viewers, and would be perfect to pair with Mediterranean snacks like olives.
And at just £6.99, it’s “a definite add to your shopping list next time you go to Aldi”.
“This,” she concludes, “is Partner in Wine approved. Cheers!”
It’s constantly sold-out in most stores because it’s proved so popular with wine lovers, who rush to grab as many bottles as possible as soon as it’s restocked.
