So one young woman decided to treat herself to a stunning birthday cake for her party, but was left mortified when she picked it up.

Ellie, who lives in Australia, shared the cake fail on Facebook revealed that she paid £129 ($230) for her dream cake.

But when she saw it in person she compared it to a "kid's volcano school project" and was left "devastated".

The young woman sensed something was wrong when the baker asked her to send the design three times because they "couldn't remember" what she wanted.

And she said when she finally got to pick up the cake from the professional baker it was so bad she couldn't even eat it because it was covered in 'candle wax' icing and dead flowers.

Ellie shared the baking blunder to a Facebook group alongside pictures of what she wanted and what she got.

She wrote: "This was a professional baker and I had to send in the inspiration picture three times as they couldn't remember what I had wanted."

Ellie explained she had 'no words' when she got the cake, but has since gotten a full refund.

Members of the Facebook group couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the birthday cake.

One claimed: "She definitely dropped the cake, picked it up and gave it to you."

"There's no way the baker looked at this and said 'this is fine'," an astonished woman said.

A third suggested: "The flowers are dying on purpose so they don't have to be a part of that abomination."
