WE ALL love a takeaway, but we certainly don’t love the cost and calories that come with it, but luckily one woman has found a way to have her KFC fix at home.
Taking to the Facebook group she shared her method which produces chicken strips to rival the colonel’s.
Sharing a snap of her crunchy strips, she wrote: “This is my KFC fakeaway you can make southern fried chicken in the slow cooker you’re welcome.”
In order to get your chicken lovely and crispy after coating in an egg wash and crumb, she recommends cooking the fillets on high for at least two hours.
She also recommends leaving the lid of the slow cooker off in the last ten minutes to allow the chicken to crisp up further.
You can also switch to a lower setting leave it to cook while you’re out for the day, meaning that you can look forward to a delicious fakeaway when you get home from work.
Slow cooker KFC recipe
Ingredients
- Chicken breast fillets
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup Bread Crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Sea salt to taste
Method
Lightly spray slow cooker with Olive Oil spray.
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together egg white and milk. Add spices to flour in another bowl for dredging chicken. Add crumbs to a shallow dish and spread out for coating.
Dip fillets, one at a time, into the egg mixture and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge each filet into flour mixture and dip again into egg mixture.
Coat fillets crumbs and press crumbs onto chicken. Complete this process for each filet.
Spray each filet, on both sides, with Olive Cooking spray and place side by side in the slow cooker.
Lightly sprinkle the top of each filet with pepper. Cover and cook on high 2-1/2 hours.
Remove the lid and allow to continue cooking for 10 minutes. Removing the lid helps the chicken get crunchier.
But just remember to pre heat on high always helps.
Fellow group members were seriously impressed, thanking the amateur cook for her tip.
Commenting on the post, one wrote: “Oh my god yes yes yes am going to make this weekend.”
“Jesus I’m hungry looking at this” commented another, with a third adding, “This looks amazing . I will try this.”
