Millionaire’s daughter, 21, who splashes £2K on champagne, breaks down in tears as she’s forced to go on budget camping trip on Rich Kids, Skint Holiday
A PAMPERED rich kid has broken down in tears after being forced to swap luxurious holidays and private jets for a camping trip in a tent.
Melissa is used to at least three holidays a year, but on last night's episode of Rich Kids, Skint Holiday, the privileged graduate ditches the Louboutins for wellies as she joins Pam and her family on a budget camping trip in Wales.
Twenty-one-year-old Melissa, from Kent is used to the life of luxury and despite graduating from uni this year, is still being supported by her millionaire dad.
Admitting she's been to Florida 30 times, Mel is used to private jets, spa treatments and expensive cocktails.
But now, she's swapping the millionaire lifestyle to join Pam and her family on a camping trip they've spent four months saving for.
"I want them to see you can have an absolute blast for next to nothing," said Pam.
"Who you're with is more important than what you paid for the privilege to do it."
The 5STAR show, which aired last night, sees privileged youngsters swap five-star luxury for cheap and cheerful, ditching sunbathing on private yachts for a more humble approach to having fun.
But Mel is less than impressed when she arrives in rainy Wales, meeting Pam, husband Graham, 23-year-old daughter Anne-Marie and three-year-old grandson Jayden at the local train station.
And when Mel is asked to budget £30 on a full day of activities for Jayden - as well as making sure there's some left over for the family to eat - she becomes emotional.
"Jayden is really energetic. So I'm under pressure to find ways for him to have a good time under budget," she said.
In a bid to plan something different for Jayden, Mel tries to organise a trip to a local farm, but is disheartened when she realises there's not enough money in the pot for a day out as well as dinner.
"It's just difficult really, even for kids' parties, my mum would pay for all the children.
"I kind of just wish I could use my own money now, so I can organise it and give Jayden something different to experience."
Breaking down in tears, she added: "Sorry, I just didn't really realise how lucky we were to have all these things.
"It just makes me sad. It's opened my eyes to see that it's actually really hard work."
And when it comes to mealtimes, Mel, who's used to spending £2,000 on one bottle of champagne, has a sharp reality check when she's forced to eat cereal straight from the packet.
"This has to be a first for me. I've never eaten breakfast like this before," she explained.
"Normally for breakfast I'd have a big English breakfast with sausages, bacon, egg, French toast, exotic fruit.
"I wouldn't even had to cook. Staff would come and ask me what I wanted. The chef would make it fresh in front of me."
Throughout the duration of her camping experience, Mel struggles with the sleeping arrangements, after swapping her comfy king size double to bed down in an uncomfortable tent instead.
"I feel like I'm going to come down with a cold and I'm soaking wet," she said.
"I'm freezing cold, my tent is so tiny, I'm probably not going to sleep at all.
"The rain is going to keep me up as well. On a normal holiday I'd be in the sun, not stressed out at all, and my hair would only be wet from swimming. And I'd have a dryer to dry it."
And Mel's mood doesn't change the following morning, when she reveals she had two hours' sleep.
"My back's hurting, my neck's hurting," she said.
"So it's not that fun. A communal shower is like a disaster and a nightmare put together.
"You can see the mess and the dirt and the toilet seat has not been cleaned.
"If it was my holiday I'd have my room cleaned three times a day.
"If it was messy at all, I'd call the cleaner and they'd come in to clean it. So I'm a bit scared to use the open bathroom."
But despite being used to the life of luxury, Pam’s no fuss, can-do attitude soon makes Mel change her tune.
Over the course of the week, the privileged 21-year-old starts to realise you can have fun without spending thousands.
"I didn't really appreciate the things I've been through and the holidays I've been on," she explained.
"It took for me to sleep on the floor in a tent in the rain to realise I've been so blessed to have these opportunities.
"I was blinded by these luxuries I have, because not everyone has them. It's slapped me in the face and been a wake-up call."
