Mum slammed for letting her daughter, 7, wear bikini bottoms without a top on at holiday kids’ club – with critics saying it’s ‘totally wrong’
A MUM has sparked fierce debate online after she admitted to letting her seven-year-old daughter wear bikini bottoms without a top at a holiday kids' club.
Sharing her dilemma on parenting forum , the anonymous British mum revealed she'd dressed her "very skinny" daughter in only bikini bottoms for her day at the pool.
However, the parent was mortified after a member of staff asked her to dress her daughter in a top for the next session.
She wrote: "She was wearing the bottom part of the bikini [and I've] been told she has to wear the top part for tomorrow.
"I think it's just weird and I'm feeling a bit upset about it."
Although the mum concluded the post by asking if her reaction was unreasonable, other users claimed it was "totally wrong" for a seven-year-old to not be wearing a bikini top.
One replied: "I think its weird that your seven-year-old has a bikini at all. Why not get her a proper swimming costume?"
Another added: "Your daughter is seven - why on earth does she have a bikini?"
"Did they say why they want her to wear the top?" a third asked. "Although I am not a fan of bikinis for young girls anyway - swimsuits are much more appropriate."
Meanwhile, another replied: "Why didn't you give her both parts to begin with? I think a lot of 7 year olds would be starting to get to the point of wanting to cover themselves up."
However, not everyone was so critical - with one arguing that bikini tops were more suggestive.
"I would rather see a seven year old with just pants on than a bikini suggesting they had t*ts to cover up in the first place," they wrote. "I find it truly shocking that she was asked."
