The Queen used to have a bar at Buckingham Palace but it was closed after staff got ‘too worse for wear’
THE Queen once had her own bar at Buckingham Palace, according to a new Channel 5 documentary.
According to new four-part show Secrets Of The Royal Palaces, the watering hole had to be shut down due to staff getting too drunk.
Dickie Arbiter, who worked as a press secretary for the Queen, said that the bar was forced to be closed down due to palace workers getting “too worse for wear.”
He added: “They had to get rid.”
Her Majesty, 93, is known to enjoy a tipple, and her favourite drink of choice is a gin and Dubbonet, according to her former chef Darren McGrady.
Grant said to CNN that the Queen doesn’t drink every day, and added: “Just in the evening. She certainly doesn't drink four glasses a day."
The former chef added that if the Queen does have a drink with dinner it is usually a glass of her favourite German sweet wine.
The Channel 5 show, which is out later this month, also claims the British royal has an ATM machine installed in one of her many rooms.
Despite having the facility in her home, it is unknown if the Queen has ever used the device.
The first episode in the series will explore Buckingham Palace, before giving a glimpse inside the other royal residencies, including Windsor Castle, Balmoral and Clarence House, where her son Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla live.
Buckingham Palace boasts 775 rooms, over 50 bedrooms and nearly 80 bathrooms.
There is also said to be a staff Post Office on site, and a doctor's surgery as well as a swimming pool.
The Queen's former press officer, Dickie Arbiter, revealed he frequently enjoyed a dip in the leisure facilities.
The Queen has almost 200 members of staff working at the Royal Household.
In the programme, some of the royal's staff will be sharing details of the royal abode.
Grant Harrold, who is the former butler to Charles and Camilla, will contribute to the show, as well as royal observers and interior designer Nicky Haslam.
Secrets of the Royal Palaces will air on Channel 5 later this month.
Fabulous Digital has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
Maybe the Queen's extravagant spending habits could be the reason she wanted an in-house ATM.
