Genius mum’s traffic light clock tip makes her children lie in for longer
A MUM has revealed her ingenious trick for getting her daughter to stay in her room and not wake her up at the crack of dawn.
All parents will know you pretty much give up having a lie-in when you have children, but one mum is managing to get a few more hours' kip.
Megan Gough, from Greater Manchester, took to Facebook to reveal her handy tip – and all you need is a clock and some pens.
She customised an ordinary £2 Ikea clock with a ‘traffic light’ system, colouring in different sections of the clock face.
Red means stay in bed, orange means you can play quietly in your room, while green signals it’s ok to get out of bed.
Adding a touch of artistic flare, she also drew a sun and clouds in the background.
Explaining how it works, Megan told : “This was a plain clock from IKEA my three-year-old now knows when to get up.
“Green is good to go.
"So she gets up when the glittery hand is in green, if she's awake in yellow, she can play quietly in her room but not in my room and red is back to bed.”
The youngster’s bedtime runs from 6pm until 7am, with her daughter not allowed to get out of bed before 6.30am.

From 6.30am until 7am she’s allowed to play in her room, and from 7am onwards she can leave her bedroom.
All in all the system has worked well, Megan said, with the occasional blip.
She added: “She is really good, just the odd problem like waking me up at 1.30am because ‘I have no socks on’. Ha!”
