Meghan Markle pays tribute to Vogue photographer Peter Lindbergh following his death at 74 and says she’ll ‘deeply miss’ him
THE DUCHESS of Sussex has posted a touching tribute to photographer Peter Lindbergh who has sadly passed away at the age of 74.
Peter had worked with Meghan on the cover of the September issue of Vogue, which the Duchess guest edited.
Taking to Instagram to post the tribute, @sussexroyal shared a sweet image of Meghan and Peter, explaining that "Forces for Change" had been one of the fashion photographer's final projects.
"Honouring the life and work of photographer Peter Lindbergh," the post read.
"His work is revered globally for capturing the essence of a subject and promoting healthy ideals of beauty, eschewing photoshopping, and preferring natural beauty with minimal makeup.
"The Duchess of Sussex had worked with Peter in the past and personally chose him to shoot the 15 women on the cover for the September issue of British Vogue, which she guest edited.
"There is no other photographer she considered to bring this meaningful project to life.
"'Forces for Change' was the one of the esteemed photographer’s final published projects.
"He will be deeply missed."
A post on the photographer's Instagram account confirmed his death today.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Lindbergh on September 3rd 2019, at the age of 74," it read.
"He is survived by his wife Petra, his first wife Astrid, his four sons Benjamin, Jérémy, Simon, Joseph and seven grandchildren.
"He leaves a big void."
Speaking about working with Meghan on the project, Peter had told the magazine: "My instructions from the Duchess were clear: ‘I want to see freckles!’
“Well, that was like running through open doors for me. I love freckles.
“I hate retouching, I hate make-up. I always say, ‘Take the make-up off!’
“The number of beautiful women who have asked me to lengthen their legs or move their eyes further apart…
“You would not believe. It’s a culture of madness.”
Meghan also teamed up with Peter in 2017, when she appeared on the front cover of Vanity Fair.
Aside from shooting royalty, Peter worked with some of the world's most iconic supermodels, including Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.
Since the news of his passing was announced today, social media has been flooded with tributes from the fashion world.
Edward Enninful, editor of UK Vogue said: "His ability to see real beauty in people, and the world, was ceaseless, and will live on through the images he created. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, worked with him or loved his pictures."
