The Queen orders takeaway fish and chips when she is at Balmoral and staff go pick it up for her
THE Queen has a chef to prepare her meals each day, but is said to enjoy indulging in a takeaway when she’s staying at Balmoral.
Her Majesty, 93, heads to the Scottish retreat each summer and has been known to order from the local eateries on special occasions.
According to a royal source, the Queen chooses the same takeaway when she orders.
The source told Fabulous Digital: “She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral.
“A footman is despatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.”
The Queen isn’t the only royal to enjoy a takeaway delivery, and Prince William loves a pizza or Chinese.
He also loves Nando's and, according to , told co-founder Robert Brozin he was the chain's "biggest fan" after being introduced to it by his police protection officer.
And in an interview with in 2017, Kate, 37, admitted that she was partial to a curry for dinner.
But Kate isn't the only royal lady to enjoy a takeaway from time to time, and fellow duchess Meghan Markle has previously described chips as her guilty pleasure.
"I could eat French fries all day long," she told Best Health Canada.
Of her ability to consume fries as part of a healthy diet, she explained: "It's all about balance, because I work out the way I do, I don't ever want to feel deprived.
"I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things. It's not a diet; it’s a lifestyle eating."
THE QUEEN'S SUMMER RETREAT AT BALMORAL
Balmoral Castle has been a Royal residence since 1852.
The estate and its original castle were purchased privately by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, and to this day remain the private property of the Royal Family.
The castle is classified by Historic Scotland as a category A listed building, and costs around £3 million annually to run.
Every summer, the Monarch returns to the Balmoral estate with her husband Prince Philip.
Throughout the summer, much of the royal family - including Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate - will join her and Prince Philip for their annual “summer break.”
The Royal residence has often been described as “the most beautiful place on Earth” and is often referred to as the Queen’s favourite home.
The Queen is often seen riding horses or driving her beloved Range Rover over the estate’s rugged terrain.
The castle gardens were first opened to the public in 1931.
They now open daily between April and the end of July, after which Queen Elizabeth arrives for her annual stay.
According to Darren McGrady, who became a personal chef to the Queen and later Diana, Queen Elizabeth II “is not a foodie”.
While she regularly enjoys lavish banquets during her numerous social events, at home she is a diner of simple tastes and selects her dishes on a daily menu, crossing out the option she doesn’t want.
He said to the : “She eats to live, unlike Prince Philip who loves to eat and would stand and talk food all day.”
But that hasn’t stopped her indulging in some guilty pleasures, such as a gin before lunch, afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and a frequent supply of McVitie's rich tea biscuits.
Her former footman Paul Burrell even admitted she is partial to bananas, but eats them with a knife and fork.
She also loves bowls of Special K cereal, finger sandwiches and chocolate biscuits.
