The Queen is ‘relaxed and proud’ in Kate Middleton’s company – and the Duchess is keen not to upstage her, body language expert reveals

THE Queen is "relaxed and proud" around Kate Middleton, who consciously tries not to upstage her grandmother-in-law, a body language expert has revealed.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, was beaming as she arrived at a Balmoral Castle church service with the 93-year-old monarch yesterday.

Kate joined the Queen in the back seat of their chauffeured car, while husband Prince William, 37, sat up front.

And Judi James says it's clear the two women are comfortable in each other's company.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous Digital, Judi said: "Given the criticism and rumoured scandals swirling around some of the other members of her family, it's probably no surprise the Queen's body language with Kate here suggests a rather relaxed looking sense of pride and pleasure.

"Kate's beaming smile with rounded cheeks and a symmetric display of her upper teeth suggests she is equally happy in the Queen's company.

"Although her subtle, flat-palmed wave hints she's keen to not upstage her grandmother-in-law."

Kate, Wills and kids George, six, Charlotte, four, and Louis, one spent Bank Holiday weekend in Scotland with the Queen.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and baby Archie were notable absences from the annual break at the Queen's Scottish Highlands retreat.

Judi also thinks Kate, who married into the royal family in April 2011, has honed her body language to ensure the Queen is as comfortable as possible.

She said: "Kate looks more and more like a companion to the Queen.

"Her trait of using very active listening signals, including subtle eye checks to ensure her very elderly relative is comfortable and happy, never seem to stray into the realms of the kind of fussing the Queen is so allergic to."
