OH VOW

A couple saved thousands on their wedding day by eloping and getting two STRANGERS to witness and photograph their £390 wedding

A COUPLE have revealed how they got married at the scenic Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies for just £390 after eloping and only inviting strangers to witness their nuptials.

Sam and Kaylyn Taylor, from Australia, who describe themselves as 'introverted', decided against having any guests, a first dance, or cake in order to make sure they had no debt after their big day.

: "We are private people and both of us just saw it as the way we truly wanted to commit to each other."

While they did consider a traditional wedding, they admit that the hefty price venue fees, expensive dress, inviting guests and trying to 'please everyone' sounded like a 'nightmare'.

Instead, Kaylyn decided to elope to Canada with her groom, spending a minuscule £390 on their entire day - and just £55 on her wedding dress.

"We made it official by asking strangers, an older couple who'd been together for decades, to be our witnesses and they were over-the-moon excited to be," Kaylyn continued.

The married couple then went to a local church to 'make it official' - describing the extremely intimate ceremony as 'perfect'.

Following the big moment, a post-elopement dinner-for-two was gifted by their families back home, before Sam and Kaylyn spent the rest of the week on their honeymoon at Chateau Lake Louise.

While there was 'some tension' over the situation, their families were generally on board with them eloping for the wedding.

"A formal wedding just didn't reflect us and didn't feel like it was about what really mattered, which was committing out lives to one another," Kayla said.

The couple met in September 2017 while waiting to watch the sunset from the romantic Burleigh Hill viewpoint at the Burleigh National Park in Australia.

They admit it was love at first sight - and after saying hello, the couple enjoyed their first date, which lasted more than 11 hours.

There they found out that they had a similar interest in skiing, even previously visiting the same resort at the same time - and a year later, they began to plan the wedding.

"Our lives had overlapped so many times that we both think it was fate for us to meet," concluded Kate.
