Meghan Markle ‘to visit Princess Diana’s grave for the first time’ with Prince Harry and Archie
MEGHAN Markle is set to make an emotional “pilgrimage” to Princess Diana's grave with Prince Harry and Archie, reports claim.
The Duchess is expected to make her first visit to Diana’s final resting place around the 22nd anniversary of the Princess’ death on August 31.
Diana was laid to rest in the middle of a tranquil island on a stunning lake at her family’s estate on 6 September 6, 1997.
Harry and Prince William used to visit Althorp twice a year: on Diana’s birthday, July 1; and on the anniversary of her death.
But they are not believed to have visited since what would have been Diana’s 56th birthday in 2017, when they attended a private ceremony led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
Harry has maintained a close bond with Diana’s family ever since her death in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris.
Her sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, were included in the family portrait taken at Windsor Castle after Archie’s christening last month.
Harry also proposed to Meghan with a custom-made ring which featured two diamonds from his mother’s jewellery collection.
Meghan spoke about this poignant gesture in the TV interview after announcing their engagement in 2017.
She said at the time it ensured Diana is “with us on this crazy journey together”.
Meghan said: “Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of Princess Diana’s stones and obviously not being able to meet his mum.
“It’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.”
Harry also agreed that Meghan and his mum would be “thick as thieves, without question”.
He said: “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me.
“But then, as I said, [she] would’ve probably been best friends with Meghan.”
Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan posted a touching tribute to Princess Diana on Instagram.
The pair chose a quote made by the princess of Wales about making “random acts of kindness” as the first in their inspirational series.
The quote, printed on a Royal blue background under Meghan and Harry's 'HM' monogram, reads: "Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you."
The couple added: "Words have the power to inspire, which is why we’re happy to share some of our favourite quotes.
"From members of the public to public figures, from teachers and students to young leaders, we begin with a quote from Diana, Princess of Wales."
Diana grew up to the 13,000-acre Althorp estate, which now features 36 oak trees that were specially planted to represent each year of her life.
Princess Diana's grave is located on an island in the middle of a lake on the estate, which was chosen to defend the late princess' remains from ghouls.
A memorial for visitors can be found across from the lake, where well-wishers can leave flowers as a tribute to the much-loved princess.
