Ellen DeGeneres defends ‘compassionate, down-to-earth’ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry amid private jet row
ELLEN DeGeneres has defended “compassionate” Meghan Markle and said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are attacked “for everything they do”.
The talk show host, 61, leapt to the “eco-warrior” couple’s defence after they were branded “hypocrites” for taking four private jets in 11 days.
Taking to Twitter, Ellen said: “Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation. They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people.
“Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”
Her comments come after Elton John’s passionate defence of the couple’s use of the private jet to visit his swanky £15million mansion in Nice.
The Rocket Man singer, 72, confirmed he provided the luxury 12-seater Cessna plane, that would have cost over £20,000 to hire, due to the couple’s “high level of much-needed protection.”
He took to Twitter after photos emerged of the Sussexes boarding a private jet with son Archie – despite frequently preaching about the environment.
Begging for fair coverage, Elton, said: “After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquillity of our home.
“To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.
“To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint.”
And singer Pink also chimed in with the kind messages on Twitter and said: “I’m happy to see people coming to the defense of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“The way people treat her is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while. It’s out of control. Let’s all be a bit kinder, huh?
“Let’s show our children that it’s cool to be kind.”
