Mum makes heartbreaking birthday card appeal for young son with special needs who ‘has no friends’

A MUM has made an appeal for birthday cards for her young son with special needs who "has no friends".

Louise Coss, from Dublin, said she wants to surprise Jaxson with loads of good wishes as he won't be having a party.

The little lad - who looks forward to lining his cards up in a row - will turn 4 on Sunday, August 25.

She told the Sun: "Jaxson was diagnosed with autism, sensory processing disorder, global developmental delay and anxiety when he was 20 months.

"He's non-verbal as well and struggles with daily tasks that other kids would be able to do.

"The things that Jaxson finds hard are the things that other kids love doing.

"He loves bottles of water and cards and lining things up.

"He likes lining the cards up when it's his birthday or anyone's birthday that's what makes him happy.

"When he's happy and excited he'll jump up and down and he has a little screech that he does."

Louise said Jaxson normally plays by himself and can get very lonely.

She continued: "Some kids are scared of him or they think he's weird.

"They normally just stay away from him so he normally does be by himself a lot."

The mum said she plans to celebrate his big day with a family trip to the zoo.

WHAT IS AUTISM?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an incurable, lifelong developmental condition that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

Many people with ASD find it hard to understand other people's feelings and emotions, and they may have difficulty holding conversations.

When they are young, their language development may take longer and they can struggle to use facial expressions, using gestures to communicate instead.

They may also find it hard to connect with other people and to hold eye contact with unfamiliar individuals.

Many children with ASD like to follow a routine, and changes to this can cause distress.

High functioning autism is an informal term some people use to describe those on the autism spectrum disorder.

She added: "We can't do a birthday party because he can't handle the stress or the noise and too many people in the one room.

"We're just going to do something ourselves, please God we'll get a day at the zoo."

  • IF you would like to send Jaxson a birthday card please send it to: Jaxson Coss, The Irish Sun, The Watermarque Building, 50 Ringsend Road, Dublin 4.
