Meghan Markle thought her Suits audition was ‘terrible’ and ‘ate her feelings’ in pizza afterwards
WE'VE ALL had a bad day at work that has resulted in us comforting ourselves with a takeaway - and it turns out Meghan Markle is no different.
The Duchess of Sussex, 38, has revealed she "ate her feelings" in pizza and quesadilla after what she thought had been a "terrible" audition for TV show Suits in 2011.
Despite being given the breakthrough role of paralegal Rachel Zane, the now-royal mum initially thought she'd messed up her chances after getting distracted and fluffing her lines.
Following the audition for the series - which at the time was called 'A Legal Mind' - Meghan revealed, in a post on her now-defunct blog The Tig in 2015, how she called her agent and said: “I blew it.”
She explained: "I kept forgetting my lines, I was distracted.”
The future Duchess admitted that when she arrived home she "ate her feelings" in pizza and quesadilla while she ran over in her head where she'd gone wrong.
"I wasn’t in a place to be able to let it go,” Meghan recalled.
“I wanted it, and I lost my shot at it. Or so I thought.”
To her surprise, she was invited by producers to do a "test" in front of studio and network executives.
She wrote: “Those suits were about to decide my fate for what would end up being known the world over as Suits.”
However, a last minute requirement about wearing a "more conservative" outfit meant she had to make do with a £36 black dress she spotted in a shop window.
"There was no Tom Ford pencil skirt,” she said.
“Nor a pair of Louboutins on my feet, a Prada blouse was many moons away on Rodeo Drive, and I’d had my hair blown out at DryBar because it was close to my house and what I could afford.”
She arrived at the audition in her "rattling car" and remembered feeling nervous and hungry.
Meghan then said she saw a “regal looking actress” - later revealed to be co-star Gina Torres - in the waiting room who smiled at her.
She was subsequently told she had got the part in the American legal drama which was to be filmed in Canada.
“I had no idea that this late August morning of 2011 would change my life,” she said, having previously experienced a series of setbacks and rejections in her acting career.
"Suits stole my heart. It’s the Goldilocks of my acting career – where finally I was just right.”
The fame the series brought propelled Meghan into the circles that enabled her to meet Prince Harry, 34, in July 2016.
She starred in Suits from 2011 to 2018, having decided to leave following her engagement to the sixth-in-line to throne.
The Duchess now lives in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor with the Duke and their three-month-old son Archie.
