The Queen scolded Prince Phillip after he ‘hid one of her corgis in a cupboard’ in a practical joke

EVERY successful relationship needs a touch of humour to keep things sweet – and it’s no different for the Royal family, especially for it’s longest standing couple.

The Queen and Prince Philip have been married for more than 70 years, and their success is thought to be down to their shared sense of humour which sees them laugh, joke and make witty comments.

Throughout the years, the Duke of Edinburgh has played many practical jokes on his Royal wife – and while many generated a good laugh, others seriously backfired.

According to one Royal insider, the Prince once hid one of the Queen’s beloved pet corgis in a bid to get dinner guests laughing.

They told the : “Philip had a corgi put in a desk cupboard and when the Queen asked him where it was, he said that he didn’t know.”

But his plan totally backfired when the hidden dog started crying for help on hearing his owner the Queen’s voice in the room.

The source continued: “When the dog whined after hearing the Queen’s voice, Philip let it out and it ran straight to her.”

While he may of thought it hilarious, Elizabeth was not impressed and scolded Philip, telling him to ‘stop showing off’ in front of their dinner guests.

But even this didn’t deter the Duke, who instead of listening to his wife turned to guests, according to the source, and scoffed ‘who does she think she is?’.

The Queen and Prince Phillip have been married for 72 years, with biographers and Royal insiders noting their secret as ‘laughing together’.

On their 70th wedding anniversary, Royal biographer Ingrid Seward explained to Loose Women: “I think the secret is they laugh together. I think the Queen is the [comedian].

“She’s a wonderful mimic. She can do the Liverpool accent, she does Irish – she’s very good at American as well.”
