Meghan Markle and Prince Harry slammed by royal trolls for having ‘no respect’ for Prince George in their birthday wishes
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have been accused of having "no respect" for Prince George by trolls.
On Monday the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a cute message from their @sussexroyal Instagram account to celebrate their nephew's sixth birthday.
In response to Kensington Palace's post which featured three new heartwarming snaps of Prince George, Meghan and Harry wrote: "Happy Birthday! Wishing you a very special day and lots of love!"
After the couple were accused of being "formal" in their birthday message to Prince William last month, Meghan and Harry added a birthday cake and balloon emoji to their comment.
However, royal fans have been up in arms over the message and accused the couple of being "disrespectful" by not calling Prince George by his name or using his royal title.
Racking up more than 1,400 responses overnight, users have been arguing over whether Meghan and Harry can be more informal with their nephew or whether they should always use titles for our "future king".
One replied: "I know that this is their nephew but they should treat him with respect. And first of all, he is for them Prince George!!"
Similarly, another added: "He is HRH Prince George to you! Don't forget to mention!"
"What a shame," a third replied. "Can't you even wish him birthday greetings addressing his name at least. One day he will be your future King too."
What's more, other users were quick to draw comparisons between how other members of the Royal Family wished George a happy birthday.
The Instagram account for Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall shared the official portraits taken by Kate Middleton along with the caption: "A very Happy Birthday to Prince George, who turns six today."
How did Prince George spend his birthday?
- The royals tend to be fairly secretive about their lives away from official engagements, but it's been reported that George requested a low key sixth birthday party
- It appears that for the second year running the young royal is enjoying his birthday on holiday on the the private island of Mustique
- He spent his fifth birthday playing on a beach at the same location
- It's thought that George has asked for it to be a day spent with his family
- There is a suggestion that he might have a small magic-themed party for his friends from school in London to celebrate
Arguing that Meghan and Harry should have done the same, another user wrote: "Meghan Markle should take example from Prince Charles who calls his grandson in public and on Instagram Prince George."
"All royal official accounts are able to write Prince George's name, even his grandfather's account," another replied."And you'll say 'they didn't make it easy'... hmm."
Earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex confessed to Pharrell Williams that "they don't make it easy" as she opened up about her struggles with public life at the Lion King premiere.
But not everyone was so critical of the couple, with other users jumping to their defence and telling them to ignore the criticism.
"They are his aunt and uncle," one replied. "You don't have the right to tell them [what] they should call him. Keep your thoughts to yourself and mind your own business!"
Pointing that "Prince is his title, not his name", another asked: "Do you call your niece or nephew by a title?
"I DON'T THINK SO. So why would Harry and Meghan?"
