AISLE BE DAMNED

Bridezilla blasted for asking one of nieces to be a flower girl while BANNING the other from attending her ‘child-free wedding’

DECIDING who to include in your wedding party is a huge (and slightly awkward) decision every bride has to come to terms with.

But while most struggle to cut down their number of bridesmaids or choose which friend they want as their maid-of-honour, one Bridezilla has been slammed online after picking favourites within her family.

A bride has sparked furious debate online after she picked just one of her nieces to be a flowergirl at her wedding

Posting on parenting forum , an outraged mum revealed that her sister-in-law has chosen just one of her daughters to be a flowergirl in the wedding.

And to make matters worse, her other, older daughter hasn’t even been invited to the “child-free” ceremony.

“I have two daughters, 9 and 5, the eldest of whom is not my husband’s,” the mum explained. “I have no complaints about his treatment of my eldest daughter at all and no real complaints about his family’s treatment of her.”

That said, the mum says her husband’s relations “clearly don’t see [her elder daughter] as family” but dote on her youngest.

She added: “While my in-laws always buy birthday presents for their actual granddaughter, there is nothing for my eldest.

“At Christmas if she is with her dad she gets nothing but if she is with us then her sister gets a decent present and she gets a token.”

Now that her husband’s brother is getting married, the bride has decided to make just her blood-related niece a flowergirl and is excluding the other.

The mum wrote: “My [older daughter] is not invited as it is a child-free wedding except for the bridal party. I am so upset.”

However, the mum acknowledged that her younger daughter wasn’t invited to her ex’s brother’s wedding a few years ago when her older sister was a bridesmaid.

My older daughter is not invited as it is a child-free wedding except for the bridal party. I am so upset.

Asking whether she was wrong for feeling upset for her daughter, the mother concluded: “Should she have been invited to this step-uncle’s wedding?

“In my heart of hearts (not that I would tell anyone in real life), I think she should have been asked to be a flower girl too!”

Unsurprisingly, other users agreed that the little girl should be included in the celebrations too.

“What a sad situation. I would be upset that she’s not treated as an equal in terms of presents and invitations,” one wrote. “Unless your [husband] wants to bring it up with his family though I think you’re going to have to swallow it.”

Another added: “That’s really sad. It’s different that [your second daughter] wasn’t invited to an ex’s family wedding as she is not related to him. But [your eldest daughter] is part of your husband’s family even though she is not biologically related.

One Mumsnet user warned the couple will fear they ‘have to make exceptions’ if they let the girl come to the wedding

“That would be very sad for her to be left out. It would be worse though if she was there but not a flower girl. Better for her not to see.”

Similarly, a third wrote: “This is why we don’t go to child-free weddings. I feel sorry for your daughter.

“Aside from the wedding, I think your husband needs to remind people that this girl is his family and they are hurting him by excluding her.”

Jumping to the defence of the bride and groom, one replied: “I don’t think they’ve done anything wrong, he wants his niece as a flower girl and your eldest isn’t his niece.

“If the rest of the wedding is child-free, then he may feel if he makes the exception for one child then others will expect the same.”
