But one you might not be so familiar with is the fact that carrying a baby can turn your toilet seat blue.

At least, that's the claim of mums online.

has reported that mums on Reddit and other forums have noticed that appearance of what they jokingly call "smurf butt".

: "Has anyone here turned their toilet seat blue? I just realised last night that our toilet seat is now a lovely blue/purple hue.

"After some googling, apparently, this is something that happens to pregnant people? Please tell me I'm not alone in this!"

And many other mums piled in on the post to say that they had noticed the same thing.

"Holy s**t, I thought it was just me! I thought it was because of my maternity jeans, but maybe not?" replied one.

So why does that happen?

Changes to sweat

Well, it may all be down to changes in sweat during pregnancy.

There are various theories online about what could cause changes but according to Angela Ballard, Registered Nurse with the International Hyperhidrosis Society, it could be down to something called pseudochromhidrosis.

That's where sweat takes on an unusual colour after coming in contact with dyes, chemicals or bacteria on the skin.

If that's the case, it could be that many of the affected pregnant women have the same kinds of toilet seats.

Hormonal reaction

Many of the conversations online have questioned whether it could be down to pregnancy hormones mixing with antimicrobial silver - something many toilet seats are covered in.

But a more rare disorder could also be to blame.

Chromhidrosis is a condition of the sweat glands which results in coloured sweat on the face, underarms or nipples.

According to the , sweat could be yellow, green, blue, brown or even black.

That colouring is caused by a pigment produced in the sweat glands called lipofuscin.

"Lipofuscin is common in human cells, but for some reason people with chromhidrosis have higher concentrations of lipofuscin or lipofuscin that is in a higher-than-normal state of oxidation," the society says.

It's quite a rare condition with no apparent link between gender or weather...so it'd be a massive coincidence if all these pregnant women were living with it.

Not *just* pregnant women affected

Interestingly, a blogger called Kayla, of turning her toilet seat blue which then attracted a tonne of comments from non-pregnant readers who claimed to have done the same thing.

A 67-year-old said they'd turned their seat blue as had a woman who claimed her seat changed colour every month - just before her period came on.

So, maybe it's hormonal, maybe it's a sweat disorder or...maybe it's a bit of both.

It's not just white loo seats that are suffering under the sweaty weight of pregnancy either.

Another pregnant Redditor claimed that their sweat had turned their clothes pink.
