BEDDER BELIEVE IT

Expert reveals how often you should change your bedsheets – and they need more washes if you use body lotion

DOING the laundry is one of the life’s unavoidable chores but you might not be doing enough – particularly when it comes to your bedsheets.

As the UK basks in a heatwave, chances are your bedding is probably getting a few extra washes over summer as it is.

But experts have revealed you should be laundering your bedsheets every week - regardless.

While stripping the bed might be a monthly occurrence for some, Joe Alexander, of Nest Bedding, Lu Xiong and Tianjiao Saikhantal Yu, of Flaneur, have said you should get some clean linen on your bed every weekend.

Speaking to , Joe said Saturday was the ideal day to throw your bedding in the wash, regardless of the season.

He said: “Dead skin cells and body oils accumulate quickly and can attract dust mites to accumulate."

And depending on if you’re a sweaty sleeper, or kip in the buff, you might need to change your sheets even more frequently than that.

Lu and Yu said: “If you tend to get hot and sweat a lot overnight, you definitely want to wash your sheets at least biweekly.”

That means the summer months almost definitely warrant some extra spins in the washing machine, but you may also need to change them more often in the winter too.

Lu and Yu added: “If you use body lotion everyday, maybe you’ll want to wash biweekly for that reason, too.”

So sun cream during summer and lotion for your dry skin in winter means you’ll probably need to invest in some more bedding to keep up with your new bi-weekly washing schedule.

But if your laundry capacity can’t stretch that far, the experts stressed that the “very least” you should change your sheets is monthly.
