Meghan and Harry are acting like ‘Hollywood A-listers’ by keeping baby Archie’s christening private, PR expert claims
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry are behaving like “Hollywood A-listers” by keeping their son's christening private, according to a PR expert.
Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is due to be christened tomorrow at a ceremony in Windsor Castle, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keeping it a very private affair.
Mark Borkowski, a public relations consultant, said the decision to keep the press and public out of the celebration was all part of their carefully planned media strategy.
Unlike the christenings of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s three children, Harry and Meghan are excluding the cameras, and will only release only a few select photographs.
And in another marked difference between the Sussexes and the Cambridges, the new parents have decided not to release the names of Archie's godparents.
Mark told : “This is what you'd expect a Hollywood A-lister to do, purposefully be sort of antagonist to the traditional system and not engaging with media in any shape or form.
"And this is certainly a declaration that they'll go to any lengths to protect their privacy and not engage with publicity."
Master Archie is due to be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, in the private chapel of Windsor Castle, where the pair got married.
Close family and friends, including Meghan's mum Doria Ragland, Prince Charles and Camilla, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are thought to be among guests, although the Queen can't attend after a diary clash.
But Mark said the pair refusing to reveal something as “gentle” as the names of the godparents set a precedent.
He added: “When there comes a moment when there is an issue, of maybe invasion of privacy, they have a very firm defence about their non-engagement with the media, in all shapes and forms, about their private life."
Meghan, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, have come under fire for refusing to reveal who will be Archie's godparents, which is public information for most christenings.
Normally the names of godparents are part of the public record, but the register where Archie's christening will be recorded is privately owned by the Royal Household, and is not subject to the usual rules.
The Duchess’ close friend and stylist, Jessica Mulroney, is hotly tipped to be the godmother, while Prince Harry’s school friends, Thomas and Charlie van Straubenzee, are in the running for godfather.
Mark predicted the christening will be the first case of the pair managing “insight” into their lives, and Archie’s, in the hope of giving him a normal upbringing.
As the tot is only seventh in line to the throne, it’s thought his parents are planning a life away from the public glare.
But Meghan and Prince Harry have come under fire for keeping the christening under wraps, after it was revealed they’ve spent £2.4 million from public funds on their Frogmore Cottage renovation.
They’ve faced a public backlash amid calls they can’t have it both ways, by demanding privacy but then using taxpayers money to fund their lavish lifestyles.
