PRINCE Harry has "envied Prince William for so long", according to Princess Diana's former butler.

Paul Burrell has claimed that the Duke of Sussex desperately wanted a family of his own - just like the Duke of Cambridge.

The two brothers - who are three years apart - have seen their "feud" come under scrutiny after it was revealed they have formally split their royal households and the Royal Foundation charity.

Now, their late mother's butler, 61, has suggested their lack of brotherly camaraderie may have gone on for several years.

"I think for a long time Harry has looked at his brother and envied him and thought 'I'd like some of that, I'd like a nice family around me'," Burrell told .

Earlier today, we exclusively revealed how a royal editor has claimed the clash between the brothers makes the Queen "very sad", but "she won’t interfere with their lives".

It had been thought their "feud" began when Harry accused William of trying to "wreck relationship" with Meghan Markle.

The brothers "didn’t see each other in private for six months after the Royal Wedding".

However, Burell suggested that the Duke is now in a much better place since marrying the Duchess of Sussex, and with the arrival of baby Archie last month.

The ex-butler added: "And now he has it, so it's the beginning of the future for Harry."

Burrell began working for the Royal Family at the age of 18, and previously stood as the Queen's personal footman.

The former royal staff member began serving Diana in 1987 as her butler until her tragic death in 1997.

Also speaking to , he claimed the Meghan "would have been clueless about the reality of joining the Royal Family".

The ex-butler explained that royal wives and husbands often have to learn on the job.

He said: “Would you believe there is no rule book?

";There is no etiquette lesson, there are no advisers.

“Nobody prepares people coming into the Royal Family.

“Meghan wouldn’t have been given any preparation before joining the Royal family.”
