Bride’s mum slammed over ‘inappropriate’ white dress she plans to wear to her daughter’s big day
WHEN it comes to weddings, there's one golden rule you should always follow - don't wear white.
And despite most people being aware of the fashion faux pas, one bride has taken to to ask for advice, after her own mum has decided to wear a white ensemble on the big day.
Asking if the dress was "too bridal" the woman shared an image of the outfit - a floaty, tulle two-piece featuring an A-line skirt and a high-neck peplum top.
The dressy ensemble also features a pink and grey floral design, but is predominantly white.
And other Reddit users were quick to voice their views, with one commenting: "That would be too bridal for me.
"It’s a mixture of the volume of white and the taffeta layer which takes it into the bridal territory."
Others agreed, with one explaining they could actually see a bride wearing the look themselves.
"You may be fine with it, but a lot of your other guests would probably side-eye, form opinions or gossip without knowing you gave the okay," the user wrote.
"I just don’t see any good coming from wearing white to a wedding for anyone."
One fellow bride-to-be even revealed she was wearing the outfit to her bridal shower and suggested the mum wear a different top or skirt.
"I’d say too bridal," she wrote.
"I’m wearing that skirt to my bridal shower! Maybe if she wore the shirt with a different skirt or vise-versa?
"That way it’s at least a little bit of a compromise?"
Others called it "way too bridal" while some suggested the bride just "let it go".
One said: "This isn't bridal in my opinion and I wouldn't care at all if my mum wanted to wear this to my wedding.
"In saying that though, I am a huge advocate for letting people wear whatever the hell they want to, as long as it's not an actual wedding dress."
Later on in the conversation, one person asked what the bride's dress was like - to see if it was too similar.
The original poster explained: "That’s a really good point. Mine has layers of lace. It’s a different style but still in the floral arena.
"I ended up telling her that it wasn’t my first choice, but that if she felt comfortable in it and felt pretty that that was all I cared about.
"The more I thought about it, the more I realised I was kinda worried for selfish reasons.
"All that matters is at the end of the day, I’ll be married to my love.
"So, I told her today that I’m fine with her wearing the outfit and happy for her.
"If my mom gets to wear a dress that makes her happy, win-win."
