THE average woman takes 13 minutes and 25 seconds to reach the point of orgasm, a new study has revealed.
It might not sound very sexy, but the ladies were asked to start a stopwatch when they became sexually aroused and stop it again when they climaxed - all in the name of science.
Their times ranged between 5 minutes and 42 seconds (lucky ladies) to just over 21 minutes.
But, of the 645 straight women from 21 different countries taking part, a sizeable one in six said they had never had an orgasm during sex.
While a separate study by Geneva University, in 2009, found the average bloke takes just six minutes to orgasm - i.e. less than half the time it takes women, giving a huge margin for their partners to be left feeling frustrated.
Some 90 per cent of the ladies polled in the new study reported longer-lasting orgasms when they were on top in bed.
The study is thought to be the first of its type measuring 'orgasm latency' - the gap between arousal and climax - in women.
Researchers from India’s Kadave Institute of Medical Sciences did the study between October 2017 and September last year.
A fifth of the volunteers taking part were from the UK and they were all either married or in a long-term relationship - with an average age of 30.
Last year, a separate study found 43 per cent of men got it wrong when asked how often their wives climaxed.
They polled 1,683 newlywed couples and found 87 per cent of the men consistently had an orgasm, compared to just 49 per cent of women.
