Fear of rejection and 5 other fascinating reasons men send d**k pics

IF you've done online dating, there's a good chance you've received messages you probably wish you hadn't.

You know how it goes - one minute you're talking about your favourite book and then bam, there it is, an unsolicited picture of his penis.

It's probably left you questioning why this unwelcome image has found its way into what you thought was a normal conversation.

If that sounds familiar then you're not alone.

In fact, four in 10 young women aged between 18 and 36 have reported being sent unsolicited explicit images without having asked for them, according to a recent YouGov poll.

Yet research by Match.com found that sexual photos from guys are the biggest turn-off for women.

So, why do men continue to send photos of their member at any given opportunity?

Here, The Sun’s sex and relationship columnist, , gives her insight on the psychology behind "d*** pics"...

1. He's got a fear of rejection

He’s insecure and would rather be rejected sooner rather than invest more time getting to know a woman and being rejected down the line.

He can cope, pretty much, with an upfront rejection. He can pass it off as she’s just not interested in sex.

That’s a lot easier to cope with than her getting to know his personality and rejecting him later.

His insecurities may come from long-standing social insecurities or from unhappy experiences with relationships.

Surprisingly some men are actually guarded about their feelings.

A sexualised picture doesn’t represent the ‘real’ him.

This man has trouble with intimacy and may well have been rejected in a big way in the past.

2. He's taking a risk

The guy wants to see how far he can push things with someone new.

A risk-taking nature can have its payoffs because there’s a chance a woman likes what she sees.

Psychologically a risk taker is impulsive and bounces back quickly from a rejection.

If his ‘d’ pic is rejected, a risk taker will be swiping right on the next woman as quickly as he can take a fresh pic.

3. He's marking his territory early

A man who has an inflated sense of self thinks he can send an unsolicited ‘d’ pic because he has sexual interest in the woman.

He’s not thinking of the possibility she won’t reciprocate this. This inflated sense of self comes across as an arrogant personality.

Men like this have often been the total focus of their family's attention and they expect to get their way.

4. He's highly sexualised

He views women as playthings. He simply wants a sexual encounter and wants to know early on if she’s interested.

This man might feel quite emotionally detached in relationships and thrives on physical-sexual connection.

Although with the right combination of factors – timing, emotional needs, and meeting the right woman – he can have a full relationship.

5. He's got a sex addiction

Sending ‘d’ pics to multiple women on a first or early encounter can be a sign of sex addiction.

There are many psychological traits associated with sex addiction including:

  • Risk-taking
  • Obsessional behaviour
  • An inability to experience real intimacy
  • A need for a quick fix of excitement
  • A sense of shame and guilt about who they really are – they feel unworthy of love

6. He's annoying

He wants to upset, anger or generally stir up how a woman feels when she receives his picture.

At a psychological level this man detaches from a woman’s feelings, and could well be sociopathic and lacks empathy - a very unhealthy emotional mix.

So wise up guys, psychological research shows most women do not like receiving a photo of ‘The Sword’ (or whatever you call your little chap) along with their breakfast.
