PETA TODD'S MUM SQUAD

Peta Todd on why she and husband Mark Cavendish are stopping at baby number four

Mark would have had another 20 babies, but Casper made him change his mind

THIS week my youngest child turned one. I hate to say the same as every other parent, but where has the time gone?

Blink and you miss it. Then, before you know it, they are only using you as a taxi and a chef.

Long gone are the days when they fall asleep on your chest all sweaty and cuddly, like little frogs.

I can honestly see how people get “addicted” to having bubbas.

That’s not to say I don’t love all the other stages, but nothing blows my mind more than seeing these little humans learning new life skills and forming personalities.

Casper is my fourth baby and, in case you didn’t know, four is a lot of children.

I am making no more plans to have any more kids, although I know I will always have pangs of wanting another.

I spent all my time when I was pregnant with Casper trying to make a point of “taking in” every moment as much as I could, despite not being a lover of the pregnancy bit.

So today, on a day when my baby’s age will no longer counted in months, it blows my mind.

That’s my baby bit gone.

I LOVE HAVING A BIG FAMILY FULL OF CHAOS

I think having all the other children makes him grow up even faster.

I don’t remember ever feeling that turning one year old was so momentous with the others.

So if you are someone that enjoys parenthood, will you ever feel like you are finished?

I have friends who definitely know they are done. But I always have a little voice in my head telling me that I might regret it.

Is there a magic number? Does it depend on finances? Or is it just head over heart?

To be honest, I think before we had Casper, Mark would have had another 20 babies, but Casper is so high maintenance it made him change his mind, though he is probably the more broody of the two of us.

Daughter Delilah tries to convince me daily to have another baby, though I’m pretty sure it’s so that she can have a go at playing mum.

I love being a mum. I love have a big family full of chaos (although perhaps not the mess!)
But I have been having babies for over a decade. That’s a long time.

Maybe my next little squishy bundle will be a grandchild . . . so I hope that’s not too soon.
