Meghan Markle called ‘Princess of the United Kingdom’ in Archie’s birth certificate that reveals he was born at Portland Hospital and not at home as she wanted

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously said they wish to keep the birth of their new son 'private'

'PRINCESS' Meghan Markle DID give birth to her first child Archie at the private Portland Hospital in Westminster, his birth certificate has revealed.

On the official document Meghan's occupation is listed as "Princess of the United Kingdom" - which is the same occupation Kate Middleton listed on each of her children's birth certificates.

The new mum's full name and title - "Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex" - was also used.

Rachel is the Duchess' birth name, but she chose to go by middle name Meghan when she began working as an actress.

In a nod to Prince Harry's grandad Prince Philip, the couple named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor - instead of using Sussex as his surname - but also shunned any royal title for their child.

Meanwhile the proud dad's full title - His Royal Highness Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex - is listed alongside his occupation as Prince of the United Kingdom.

It was first thought that the couple had welcomed baby Archie at the couple’s home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

However, the birth certificate confirms reports that 37-year-old Meghan was driven 25 miles to the private Portland Hospital.

This luxury hospital has birthing suites that can cost up from £2,000 up to £20,000 for a short stay, and was where her friend Victoria Beckham gave birth.

It offers new mums lobster dinners, champagne on-demand and four-poster baby cots.

It's understood that Meghan arrived at the hospital late on Sunday evening, before delivering her son in the early hours of Monday morning, with Harry and mum Doria Ragland by her side.

A spokeswoman for The Portland Hospital said: “Huge congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of baby Archie.

“For reasons of patient confidentiality, we are unable to provide any comment or information.”

The visit to The Portland was said to be so secretive, even senior royals were unaware.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment at the time.

The beaming dad couldn't stop gushing as he announced Meghan had given birth to a "very healthy baby boy".

"How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we're both absolutely thrilled.

While the cheapest "birthing package" at the Portland Hospital costs around £15,000, it's reported that some mums spend an eye-watering £500,000 - depending on the number of nights they stay and other services they require.

The American-run hospital is known for its A-list patients, including Liz Hurley, Jools Oliver and the Duchess of York, with some VIP mums spending hundreds of thousands of pounds having their babies.

Usually the information is displayed on the proclamation outside of Buckingham Palace, but the couple opted to keep them hidden earlier this month.

This is in contrast to Prince William and Kate who allowed the certificates of their three children to be publicised for the benefit of historic record.

Harry, who was by Meghan's side during labour, said the "little thing is absolutely to-die-for".

The couple have been adamant that they wish to keep the birth as “private” as possible, but posed for a photocall at St George’s Hall on Wednesday May 8 showing off the tot.

It was revealed that Meghan gave Archie the middle name Harrison as a "tribute to her favourite Beatle".

His moniker is also believed to be a tribute to Princess Diana, who has an ancestor called Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll.

And we exclusively revealed how Meghan and Harry named Archie after army hero and the Duke's mentor who got him deployed in Afghanistan.
