‘Being Meghan Markled’ is the brutal new relationship trend where people are ruthlessly dumped when they are no longer needed

The Duchess of Sussex has severed ties with a number of close friends and family since marrying into the royal family

THE Duchess of Sussex has officially made it into Urban Dictionary – but it’s not for the most flattering reason.

The online slang lexicon has listed “being Meghan Markled” as a new brutal relationship term that sees people chopped out your life without warning.

Urban Dictionary has added ‘Meghan Markle’ as when you ‘ghost or dispose of people’

The description reads that “Meghan Markle” is “a verb for ghosting or disposing [of] people once you have no use or benefit from them any more without any regard to genuine human relationships.”

Examples of usage include “Mary did a Meghan Markle on her poor husband as soon as she became famous” and “Do not Meghan Markle me when your movie comes out!”

And it can even apply to friends, as one context example is “She did a Meghan Markle on her friends as soon as she became famous.”

While the label may seem rather cruel, the Duchess of Sussex, 37, has cut a number of people out of her life since she joined the royal family.

One of the most notable relationships of Meghan’s that has broken down is with her father, Thomas Markle. 74.

Meghan is said to have frozen her former lighting director dad out of her life following him staging photos with the paparazzi and leaking a private letter she sent him.

One of her childhood friends, Ninaki Priddy, is also said to have been cut from Meghan’s life, despite being as close as “sisters” when they grew up.

Ninaki is also said to have been unhappy with the way Meghan ended her first marriage to American film director Trevor Engelson, 42, who she wed in 2011 before splitting two years later.

Piers Morgan has previously spoken out about how Meghan drops people close to her

Even celebrity pals Millie Mackingtosh and Piers Morgan are said to have been “Meghan Markled”.

Piers said he became close to the star during her time of hit legal TV series Suits, but claims he was dropped without warning.

He said: “As someone who has actually been Meghan Markled by Meghan Markle, I feel great empathy with anyone who gets Markled in life.

“There’s never any need for it. You should always at least have the basic good manners to tell someone why they are no longer of any use to you as you crawl ruthlessly up the social ladder.”

The Meghan Markle ditching effect is also said to have rubbed off on Prince Harry, who is said to have dropped a number of his close friends since marrying Meghan last May.

Prince Harry is reported to have banished his best friend Tom “Skippy” Inskip from his tight-knit group after he advised the royal against marrying Meghan Markle, according to Tatler.

The banker has been a close friend of Prince Harry after they met at Eton, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Another friend who Prince Harry has distanced from his life is said to be PR guru Astrid Harbord, who attended Kate’s hen do and was close to the prince after he split up from long-term girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

According to the Express, Meghan’s “core of steel” has led to “mutterings from some of Prince Harry’s racier chums, who have been miffed at being excluded from the royal couple’s cosy gatherings.”

However, Meghan’s close friend and actress Priyanka Chopra recently gushed about the duchess and spoke of her compassion.

Priyanka wrote for : “Somewhere among biryani, poutine and endless conversations, I realised just how deeply Meghan Markle cares for the world.

“With her, what you see is real, and what you get is a relatable young woman with her heart and mind in the right place. Her compassion, evident in the causes she supports, and her drive to break down stereotypes—obvious in her actions—will connect her to a generation in much need of kindness.”

“This ever-smiling, strong free spirit found her prince, fell in love and in turn made a cynical world believe in fairy tales again.

“But more than anything else, Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to. People the world can be inspired by. Meghan, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry, will be a princess for the people.”
