RED ALERT

Marks and Spencer is selling a pair of bikini bottoms that ‘make you look like you’re on your period’

The pants feature an oddly-placed red pattern - and shoppers are confused

SUMMER is just around the corner and most of us have started looking for the perfect poolside bikini.

But one style that's getting attention for all the wrong reasons is a pair of bikini bottoms from M&S - which thanks to their oddly-placed pattern, make it look like you've had a bit of an accident.

The £14 hipster bottoms are dusty pink in colour with a white leaf design - but it's the ombré effect that seems to be causing quite a stir.

Fading from light pink at the waistband, to bright red on the crotch, the pants seem to resemble a period stain - and shoppers are mega confused.

Writing on the product's reviews, one shopper called the bottoms a "definite no-no".

"I have kept the top as I love it and can mix and match with my other bottoms but OMG! The bottoms are definitely a no no!" The woman wrote.

"The red ombré patch on the front is in the wrong place it looks as if I have a very bad leakage when on my period!

"Definitely NOT a good look or one I want to sport when I am on my holiday.

"I was very disappointed as the fit is nice and so is the shape but the red patch at the front is definitely all wrong!"

Another agreed, giving the product two out of five stars and explaining: "Not going to lie this makes it look like you had an accident on your period."

The pants have even made their way onto Twitter after one shopper posted an image of the bottoms and wrote: "I think the M&S designer was having a bad day, not a look I want to go for this summer."

With thousands of likes and over 150 retweets, other shoppers have found the bikini bottoms hilarious, with several believing they were designed by a man.

One wrote: "Did they actually show this to any women before going ahead with production?"

While another said: "My husband [said] 'maybe it's red so that if you do bleed, you can't see the blood.'"

"They’ll instantly make you feel like grabbing your beach towel," reads the product description.
