MARVELLOUS MEDICINE

Mum claims she cured baby’s cold in three days with onion & sugar home remedy – but did it just clear up on its own?

All you'll need is an onion, granulated sugar and a bowl

THERE'S nothing worse than watching your kids suffer with a bug - and with a virus especially, parents can often feel pretty helpless.

But one mum, whose eight-month-old son was suffering with a bad cold and an ear infection, decided to take matters into her own hands to make him feel better.

Explaining the family were on holiday in Canada at the time, mum-of-two Carol Heaton had tried everything to make her son, Zavier feel better.

And when baby balm, saline spray and keeping her baby hydrated seemed to show little improvement, a relative suggested an age-old remedy.

";My family insisted on me trying this old remedy on him – an onion sugar cough syrup," she told .

"It has been used in my family for many years, my mum used to give this to us when we were kids. I was desperate to help him feel better and for some sleep myself."

Miraculously, in a matter of hours, Zavier started to show signs of improvement, with the concoction easing the congestion in his chest and allowing him to finally cough up phlegm.

The youngster began sleeping better, which immediately improved his condition.

"He was sleeping better at night and the coughing started to ease too," explained Carol.

"To say I was amazed would be an understatement. Wow, something that actually works."

The cough syrup recipe couldn't be easier (and cheaper) to make - and you've probably got the ingredients in your cupboard already.

To make the concoction - which Carol claims is suitable for kids over six months - all you'll need is one large brown onion and three heaped tablespoons of white granulated sugar.

Simply cut the onion into large slices, sprinkle over the sugar and leave in a small bowl for a few hours until the juice from the onion begins to collect in the dish.

Carol recommends giving a spoonful to your child every hour and provides full instructions on her website, .
