Meet three women who say they look and feel better than ever as they reach 60 just like our Lorraine Kelly
LORRAINE KELLY has stunned fans by posing for a picture of herself today aged 59, next to a snap taken when she was 33.
The Sun columnist and TV favourite appears to getting better with age.
Lorraine embraces turning 60 with grace, saying of the praise for her stylish appearance: “I feel we’re at a stage where we have more information than we ever had before, but I think we do generally take better care of ourselves.
We don’t look older. When I was a kid, a woman of 60 looked like a woman of 60 – a wee grey perm in a shapeless coat, a tartan shopping bag and comfy shoes.”
And she is not alone in feeling fantastic in her sixth decade.
Here, Nikki Watkins meets three women who delved into their photo albums and posed for pictures alongside shots of themselves 30 years ago.
They say they look – and feel – better than ever.
Photographer Elizabeth
FREELANCE photographer Elizabeth Whycer has never felt more confident. She believes her ambition, good genes and self-love are the reasons she feels and looks so great at 60.
Elizabeth, from Enfield, North London, says:
With no children and my relationship status as single, I know I’m in my prime and have a new zest for life now I’m a more mature woman.
After my twenties and thirties were spent making dull fashion choices, I believe my new colourful style gets me noticed. I often find myself smiling at my reflection in the mirror these days.
I believe if you refuse to feel old mentally, then physically you won’t age, either.
But I do keep myself active. I walk everywhere I go to stay slim and feel my best.
I was recently mistaken for being 38. I don’t dress like a typical 60-year-old, so I’m not surprised when people think I’m much younger. The key to happiness in your sixties is to love yourself.
When I’m not working I will often be found shopping for new clothes and catching up with the latest trends online.
I don’t believe I’m too old for any type of outfit. I wear exactly what I like and have no interest in what other people think. When I was younger I worried too much about the thoughts of others. But now I couldn’t care less.
My best quality is my confidence and energetic personality.
I don’t know why I’m so self-assured but I love who I am and it’s only improving with age.
My sixties are going to be the best years of my life. I’m already having a ball.
Model Patricia
AFTER 15 years of teaching English, Patricia Perse-White pursued her dream to became a mature model in her forties.
She admits this has led to her embracing ageing. The mum-of-two from Rogate, West Sussex, says:
This is the best I have ever looked – and I have finally got my sparkle back.
Looking at photos of myself aged 30 I can’t believe how old and frumpy I looked.
I dreaded turning 60. My husband Karl, 54, who works in sales, organised a surprise party for my 50th birthday, which I hated because I felt so body-conscious.
I knew I had to change ahead of my 60th birthday.
I also needed to be healthy in order to properly care for my daughter Maddie, 18, who suffers with cystic fibrosis.
Doctors warned that I could end up paralysed, because my extra weight was putting too much strain on my prolapsed spinal discs. It was petrifying.
After two years of dieting on the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, I dropped 6st and Maddie and I can now share wardrobes.
I now wear tight-fitting dresses, tops tucked into my jeans and brightly coloured clothes whenever I get the chance.
I spent my twenties and thirties – what some people would call your prime years – in shapeless, baggy clothes. But there is no stopping me now.
I look and feel like a different person compared to my thirties. I’d never want to go back.
I’m living my best life now I’m 60 and there’s no denying that I look better 7 now than I ever have.
Buyer Jane
WEARING a size 22 and weighing 16st, Jane Unsworth felt frumpy in her thirties. She lost 6st and became a size ten in time to welcome her 60th birthday last month.
The buyer for an aerospace company, from Long Eaton, Derbys, says:
