AN ASPIRING make-up artist whose parents always wanted her to become a doctor was reduced to tears after receiving praise from judges in Stacey Dooley's new television show.

Paige, 20, is appearing on BBC Three's new reality show Glow Up which aims to find Britain's most talented make-up artist.

But despite her obvious talent and passion for beauty products, Paige revealed that her mother - who came from a "traditional" African background - wanted her to study medicine or law like her older siblings.

Paige said: "My mum had a vision for me to become either a doctor or a lawyer. My older siblings are all doctors and lawyers."

However, the retail assistant has always wanted to pursue a more unconventional line of work since discovering make-up artistry - but admitted her family "don't see anything creative as a 'real job'."

Discussing why she entered the nationwide competition, Paige added: "I wanted to follow my dream instead of other people's dreams.

"Winning this competition will show my family that you don't need to go to uni to achieve greatness. I want to make something of myself."

Hitting screens on Wednesday, the first episode of Stacey Dooley's show sees the top 10 contestants compete for their work to be featured in Marie Claire magazine.

Asked to create a "rebellious" beauty look, the make-up artists were randomly allocated a model before the pictures were then presented to a panel of judges.

Global Make-Up Director of L'Oreal Paris Val Garland and Global Senior Artist for MAC Dominic Skinner will be judging the contestants' work every week and ultimately win a contract assisting the world's most successful make-up artists.

And while the panellists were "underwhelmed" by the majority of the work, both Val and Dominic were understandably blown away by Paige's stunning entry.

Paige's purple smokey eye with a winged effect wowed the judges, with Val even saying it was "perfectly executed".

Meanwhile, Dominic added: "There's something quite haunting about her skin and the lip and then this strong brow."
