Meghan Markle ‘isolated’ from ‘tight-knit’ Royal Family as she makes first appearance with Kate Middleton after feud rumours, body language expert says
Body language expert Judi James says Meghan appeared 'isolated' and 'shy' at Buckingham Palace event with the Queen
RUMOURS of a rift between Kate and Meghan have been rife for months – but their latest engagement suggests that the Duchess of Sussex has been ‘isolated’ by the entire Royal family, a body language expert claims.
Both Duchesses joined their husbands Princes Harry and William at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday for a celebration of the Prince of Wales, the 'fab four's' first outing together since Christmas.
Hosted by the Queen, the event gave the whole family the opportunity to come together, but in one photograph Meghan Markle appears noticeably set apart from the group.
The monarch and Prince Charles lead the way, followed closely behind by Camilla, Kate, William and Harry with Meghan left on the outskirts.
Body language expert Judi James exclusively told Fabulous Digital that the photo is a far cry from the ‘tight formation’ that is expected at an event such as this.
She explained: “The senior royals normally appear together in the kind of tight formation that the Red Arrows would be proud of, but this pose looks as though one of their most famous faces has somehow gone off the radar for a while.
“This curious pose with the Queen, Charles, Camilla, Kate and William all standing together happily while Meghan stands apart and behind them, smiling politely as she watches them, but looking slightly isolated.
“At this moment she is – unusually - even apart from Harry, as though she’s stepped quickly into the room before deciding to lag behind. Harry’s facial expression is the most dour of the entire group as he walk in to clap eyes on the others.”
The Duchess of Cambridge, on the other hand, is displaying body language that is quite the opposite of to her sister-in-law.
She adds: “Kate is mirroring the Queen’s body language here, placing her firmly in the role of the next Queen-but-one.
“Meghan looks sweet but faintly shy here. Hopefully once Harry joined her the couple stepped forward into place to join in the family group.”
Judi went on to explain that the body language displayed today was very different to the ‘over-played’ display we saw at Christmas.
She continued: “Last time we saw the Cambridge and Sussex’s together at Christmas the body language narrative was all about disproving the rumour that Kate and Meghan had fallen out.
“It was an over-congruent display of friendship, with Kate leaving William’s side to step closer to
Meghan so the pair could put effort into performing the kind of emphatic touch and smile rituals that looked over-performed enough to hint they had been told to play together nicely for the cameras.”
This is the first event that the two Duchesses have been spotted at since they were seen at church together on Christmas Day.
Prime Minister Theresa May was among the guests at the event honouring Charles's contribution to the national life of Wales over the decades.
Mrs May could be seen curtsying to the Queen as both leaders wore near-matching shades of royal purple.
And the 'fab four' were seen lining up behind the Queen and Charles as they inspected the memorabilia on display.
Welsh band Stereophonics, who were supported by the Prince's Trust in their early days, were also at the event, as was Games Of Thrones star Owen Teale.
Charles was created the Prince of Wales at the age of nine, on July 26 1958, and was formally invested with the title at Caernarfon Castle by the Queen on July 1 1969.
The investiture regalia he wore was on display, including the coronet, sword, ring and rod, as well as the Letters Patent for the creation of Charles as Prince of Wales in 1958.
