David Walliams’ hilarious book Fing is zany, slightly gruesome and another hit for BGT author
For the past decade, 45-year-old Walliams has dominated the kids’ book charts and sold more than 29m copies
FINGS are looking up for young David Walliams fans – yes, he’s got another hilarious book out.
Since his debut 2008 work The Boy In The Dress, the comedian has become one of our most influential kids’ fiction writers.
Although the flamboyant Britain’s Got Talent judge frequently pushes the boundaries with his tales full of wildly exaggerated stereotypes, somehow they work — youngsters just can’t get enough of them.
And he’s done it again with latest book Fing, released.
A new David Walliams book is always a big event in my house, with my son and I often arguing over who gets to read it first. This time, because I have to review it for you lot, I pulled rank and won.
Fing is all about a greedy girl called Myrtle Meek who, despite her surname, is anything but meek.
Over-indulged by her too-soft parents, she’s a great, brattish lump of a girl who has everything she could possibly want, but whose favourite phrase is “more, more, more”.
And what she now wants is a “Fing”. So Mr Meek sets off to the deepest, darkest jungle to get his darling her heart’s desire. But is he strong enough to find and tame the Fing and bring it back? And what will be the consequences for Myrtle? Will she finally meet her match?

MOST READ IN FABULOUS
Like Roald Dahl before him, Walliams has the ability to grab an idea and run with it — then keep on running.
Our faves from Dave
Gangsta Granny
David’s fourth novel was his first No1 bestseller. It tells the story of Ben who thinks his granny is boring – until he discovers she’s a jewel thief? Funny, but also very poignant.
Billionaire Boy
Joe Spud is rich because his dad invented a new loo roll called Bum Fresh, but money can’t buy him a friend. A glorious cast of characters is the reason why this one is so popular.
Mr Stink
David’s second novel is about a smelly old tramp and a little girl who wants to rescue him. It is funny, original and moving. The last of David’s books to be illustrated by Quentin Blake.
The Boy in the Dress
This was David’s debut, telling the story of a boy called Dennis and his love of wearing girls’ clothes. Not an immediate hit, but went on to sell more than half a million copies.
The World's Worst Children
Released in 2016, this book introduces a glorious array of truly hideous characters, including Sofia Sofa, Dribbling Drew and of course Blubbering Bertha.
Why we love David's books...
Zak Hope, aged 12
Although the books are aimed at slightly younger kids than me, the humour is grown up enough to be appreciated by all ages. I think they’re some of the most engaging books around.
Kitty Salter, aged 9
I love David Williams books because they are very funny and the characters’ personalities are so different and interesting. Even though the books are long they never get boring.
Lexi Hope, aged 5
Geronimo is one of my favourite picture books because it makes me laugh. I really like the penguin because he thinks he can fly, when he’s actually just falling.
Ava Belcher, aged 11
I love his books and all of the different personalities of the characters - I can easily picture them in my head! The books are funny and I always look forward to the next one.
Ruth Crampton, aged 9
I love them because all the characters are normal children but extraordinary things happen to them.
