A documentary claims to lift the lid on the relationship between the in-laws

PRINCESS Diana and Princess Anne did not get along and had a frosty relationship, a new documentary reveals.

Channel 5's new two-part series, Paxman on the Queen's Children, lifts the lid on the dynamic between the Queen's four children, Charles, Anne, Edward and Andrew, as well as their spouses.

While Princess Diana and her sister-in-law had a frosty relationship, she got on far better with another one of her in-laws, the documentary claims.

Prince Andrew, the Queen and Prince Philip's third child, is said to have been close with Princess Diana.

Richard revealed: "Diana had a much warmer relationship with Prince Andrew who she had known well since she was a child.

"They had played together as children on the Sandringham Estate."

And while the Prince served in the Falklands War, Jeremy said that it was Princess Diana who kept in touch with him, updating him on news from back home.

He goes on to say Princess Diana was not close with Prince Edward, the youngest of the Queen's children.

The two wives were friends before marrying into the royal family, and Diana was widely regarded as matchmaking Sarah and her future husband, Prince Andrew.

Over the years they went from friends to sisters-in-law, but later fell out, and Sarah is reported to have said one of the "saddest things" is she hadn't spoken to her friend in a year when she died in 1997.

The first episode of Paxman on the Queen's Children, airs on Tuesday, 9pm, on Channel 5.
