EARLIER this week, it was revealed that Kensington Palace staff are spending hours moderating and deleting abusive comments aimed at Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

While neither Meghan nor Kate have their own social media accounts, the abuse is circulating among their fans, with rival camps pitting the two women against each other on a daily basis.

From insults about their personal appearance, to ludicrous claims that Meghan is sporting a "fake" pregnancy bump, the trolling ranges from the ridiculous to the rather concerning.

Some are even using the hashtag #Megxit, to share their views, with one such troll tweeting: "Why is #MeghanMarkle never wearing tights?

"It's Winter in England. Tights don't go with the moonbump? Would squish the pillow? #megxit"

While the toxic comments stem from a number of Twitter accounts, it's not representative of all fans, with several royal bloggers admitting the trolling is "outrageous".

But sadly, it seems to be at a level worse than ever, after one such fan, Charlotte, explained to that the hatred towards Meghan is "more sinister" than any abuse Kate has faced in the last decade.

"I began blogging about the Duchess of Cambridge weeks after the royal wedding in 2011," she told Elle.

"About six months before Harry and Meghan announced their engagement, I decided to blog about the future duchess.

"Within 24 hours of launching the Mad About Meghan blog, I was overwhelmed by the negativity, classism, snobbery, racism and abusive attitudes regarding Meghan.

"Whilst Kate most certainly endured shocking comments online and dreadfully unkind articles, especially during her pre-wedding [and pre-engagement] days with 'Waity Katie' headlines, there was something altogether more sinister and incendiary about the reaction to Meghan."

Other duchess bloggers shared a similar opinion, with the creator of Instagram explaining she regularly deletes "evil" comments and even posts statements reminding followers to be kind.

The abuse has become so severe, that staff are now said to be seeking the help of Instagram to try and combat the problem.

A source told : “You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people.

"It’s something you have to manage because there’s no other way to control it."
