A MUM has been raving about a simple hack which leaves kettles as good as new and limescale free – and costs just £1.

Most of us use kettles everyday yet we rarely clean them, but this simple trick will leave them sparkling with minimal effort.

A mum has revealed household staple vinegar works wonders on built-up limescale - a nuisance for anyone who lives in a hard water area.

posted instructions on Facebook to make your kettle sparkle, and people have been going wild for it.

She said: “Last thing at night when no one will need the kettle fill it with half white vinegar and half water.

“Unplug it and move it away from its normal spot, put a little reminder on it to make sure no one boils the vinegar solution in the middle of the night and attempts to make a cup of tea with it!

“Leave to soak overnight and in the morning rinse it out REALLY REALLY well.

“You might also want to do a dummy boil of clean water to thoroughly ensure that any trace of vinegar is removed.”

And a video from showed amazing results in action, after using vinegar to make an old kettle gleam.

Fans commented on The Organised Mum's post with their own successes, with people vowing to give the method a go.

Some shared their own before-and-after pictures, with kettles looking virtually new as chunks of lime scale were removed with this simple trick.

One person said: “Just descaling my kettle and I see this post...will use vinegar next time.”

Another wrote: “If you boil it with the vinegar in the kettle it will descale it immediately.

"A couple of inches of vinegar, boil and rinse well.”

Sharing all the limescale that came out of their kettle, this person said: “The joy of living in a hard water area.

“I can recommend wine vinegar as it doesn't small as bad as white vinegar!”

One person asked: “Anyone know how to descale inside the spout?

“If I descale, it only obviously does the first few inches inside the kettle....”

Sharing their own tips, this person replied: “I boil the vinegar - make sure you open the window though. It’s amazing to watch.”
