She urged people to be kinder to themselves

The make-up fan – who has tried every tablet and cream around to clear her acne – said how sometimes her skin would be too “sore” to apply make-up at all.

Of one occasion where she had to go to work and see her colleagues for the first time without make-up, Abbie explained: “The spots on my chin were breaking and bleeding.”

She continued: “I was terrified. I thought they would think I was ugly. That I don’t wash my face. All these things were going through my head.”

But then a customer told her she needed to eat more fruit and vegetables, causing her to burst out crying.

She said: “I thought I was disgusting to look at.

“It took me a few days to bring myself back from that.

“I was so down and grumpy and agitated because of my skin. That’s not the person I wanted to be.
