80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size… and we should be getting fitted every SIX months
Wearing the wrong size can lead to sagging, back/neck pain and even scarring
IF YOU have a bra, you're probably wearing the wrong size - because a staggering 80 per cent of us are.
Getting your measurements wrong can lead to sagging, back/neck pain and even scarring - meaning we should be getting sized up every six months, according to an expert.
spoke to Bras N Things Fitting Expert Trudy Davis, who warned women often wear the wrong size because they've stretched over time or because they're mistakenly using their dress size as a guide.
She said: "It's also important to remember that as our bodies are continually changing as we move through various stages of life, so too will our bra size."
Berlei's head designer Adele Kershaw warned: "Scarring under the breast is a common problem if the bra is far too tight and this is caused by the bra digging into and rubbing on flesh.
"Lack of support in the bra frame adds extra pressure on the shoulders and chest this can cause complaints in the back, shoulder and neck, especially in women with fuller breasts."
How do you know you're wearing the wrong size?
If your bra is doing any of these things, it's time to get re-fitted:
- Digging in (too small)
- Slipping (too big)
- Sagging (too big or old)
- Bulging under your clothes (too big)
- Riding up (too big)
- If you have back pain (too big or old)
Trudy recommended getting fitted at least once every six months, as well as whenever you buy a new bra.
She said: "Women usually think that they only need a fitting if they have had a change in weight or specialised fits for special occasions.
"It's important for women to know that our shape changes for many reasons and to be sure you have the perfect fit it's always great to get a quick check with one of our experts as a perfect fitting bra is game changing."
Trudy also says, if your bra is correctly fitted, it should be comfortable enough to wear to the gym - yes even a black lacy one.
"The only difference with a sports bra is the firmer level of support it provides during sport or exercising", she added.
