Karate, cooking and keepy-uppies: Six primary schools kids reveal the activities they want to do in 2019 that DON’T involve looking at screens

From Karate and cooking to keepy-uppies,  find out what today's under-11s want to do outside of the classroom

WANT to get your little one a new interest or hobby? THE Government is set to release a list of activities for primary children to do each year so they gain non-academic skills.

Education Secretary Damian Hinds said: “It’s about doing stuff that doesn’t involve looking at a screen. It’s about getting out and about.”

But do our children really need a helping hand? JENNY FRANCIS and LYNSEY CLARKE asked six primary school kids to describe what would make their perfect day out.

Ride a pony in a field – “I’d like to have a pony and I’d ride it to school every day.”

Visit a donkey sanctuary – “I sponsor a donkey called Eeyore. I’ve met him once, but I want to meet him again.”

Learn to knit – “I would like to knit clothes for babies, so they stay warm in winter.”

Work in cosmetics store Lush – “My mummy works in Lush. I love their bath bombs and I could have one every single day.”

Paint a picture – “I write neatly and I colour really well inside the lines but I go crazy with paint every time I do a picture.”

Get the next belt at karate – “I go every week and I am really good at it so I want my next belt soon.”

See a real-life zebra – “I love my cuddly zebra I’ve got at home but I would like to cuddle a real one at the zoo.”

Own all the Squishy toys – “They are soft toys and you can get animals, characters and food. I love playing with them.”

More swimming badges – “I already have two, but I want a lot more, like ten.”

Have lots of LOL dolls – “My friends have lots and I would like to have more.”

Do 70 football keepy-uppies – “I’ve been practising and I’m already up to 21, but I won’t stop until I can do 70.”

Expand my guinea pig population, I want to have 16 more of them – “I want my guinea pig Popcorn to have some company when I’m at school.”

Buy every skin on computer game phenomenon Fortnite – “I’ll be really popular and all my friends would get very jealous.”

Have my hair permed – “I want to get my hair curled in a perm, because it’s trendy and cool.”

Get Manchester City midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne’s autograph – “I watch him all the time and want to be like him some day. I hope Kevin will see this and make my dream come true.”

Make a ginormous digital electric train set that’s too big for my house – “I am really interested in trains and I have already expanded my train set quite a lot.”

To learn a new computer programming language – “I’m quite good at programming, so I want to learn a new one and set up my own website.”

To play ice hockey with the Sheffield Steelers – “I’m a big fan of the Sheffield Steelers, so I would like to be on the ice with them.”

To start a successful YouTube channel – “I watch YouTube quite a lot and I think I will be good at it.”

To travel in space to see a planet in the solar system – “Mars is my favourite so I would really ike to see that one.”

Learn to cook a dinner – “I love lasagne, so I’ll start with that then move on to cooking a roast dinner. Yorkshire puddings don’t look too hard to make.”

Go up the tallest building in the world – “I’ve seen Mission Impossible, so really want to go and see what the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is like.”

Ride my bike across Dartmoor – “I could raise money for charity.”

Go to a Premier League football match – “I’m going to be a footballer and Dad says food at the stadiums is delicious, too.”

Learn to trampoline – “I can bounce high and do foward rolls. If I had a teacher I could be in the Olympics.”

Go out for dinner with friends – “I love pizza and you get some colouring pencils, too, so we could all colour and be like grown-ups”

Visit a farm – “When I’m older I want a farm, so I want to learn what to do.”

Climb a mountain – “I know my legs aren’t long enough to climb Mount Everest, but I could find a smaller mountain.”

Score five goals in a netball tournament – “Last time I was marked by a girl who was twice as tall as me so I didn’t score any.”

See some baby owls – “I’d give anything to see baby ones like they have on Springwatch.”

Make a fire – “I’ve watched Bear Grylls a lot on telly, so I think I could definitely do it.”

Get better in my Heelys – “They’re shoes with wheels and I need to practice more so I don’t fall over.”
