Royal fans convinced Meghan Markle is pregnant with twins as bookies suspend bets on a double arrival

MEGHAN Markle appears to be bumping along nicely with her pregnancy, but royal fans are convinced the duchess has not just one but two buns in the oven.

Last month bookies Paddy Power suspended bets on the chances of a double royal arrival after an abnormal number of wagers were placed on the royal couple welcoming two babies next year.

According to the Daily Star, rumours are swirling around the palace that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be kitting out their royal nursery at Frogmore Cottage with two cots come spring.

The paper claims that one high-ranking courtier was among those who have placed a bet on the outcome.

Many fans have commented on the size of Meghan's bump, despite the fact she isn't due to give birth until March or April next year.

One tweeted: "That Meghan Markle is having twins I swear #giantbump," while another wrote: "I’m just gonna say it right now: Meghan Markle is going to have twins, one boy and one girl."

But not everyone is convinced.

One Twitter user fumed: "It makes me so mad that people assume Meghan Markle is having twins just because she’s 'carrying big for her gestation' like????? Do people not realise we don’t actually know how far along she is and that every pregnant woman carries baby weight differently???"

And when Kensington Palace announced the duchess's pregnancy in October, they did say "a baby" not "babies".

According to NHS Choices, as women get older the number and quality of egg cells that are produced by the ovaries declines.

Due to Meghan's age (37) she is more likely to have twins - or even triplets - than a woman still in her twenties.

Helen Turier, head of family and professional support at  (Twins and Multiple Births Association), explained: "Older women, so women in their late thirties, early forties, are more likely to hyper-ovulate.

"This means they're more likely to release two eggs or more per cycle than younger women.

"Therefore it is believed that's why there's a higher incidence of multiple birth babies in older women.

"As far as we understand, it's due to changing levels of hormones."
