A royal source told Vanity Fair that the invitation was offered because the Queen was “so impressed” by her at Meghan and Prince Harry’s royal wedding in May.

The invitation for Doria is said to have broken with royal precedent, as even Kate Middleton’s family has not been invited to stay at the Norfolk estate.

Despite the Queen supposedly extending the invite, Doria will be staying in LA, according to

The Duchess of Cambridge’s family do typically join the royals on Christmas morning, but choose to stay at the nearby Anmer Hall rather than at Sandringham.

Kensington Palace was contacted by the Sun Online but declined to comment.

She may not be having a royal Christmas this year, but Doria is keeping busy with her own festive preparations.

It is very usually unusual for non-members of the Royal Family to join the Queen for Christmas Day.

In the past, only spouses and fiancés have been invited to Sandringham for Christmas.

Sarah Ferguson, known as Fergie, has not received an invite to Sandringham for more than 20 years after divorcing Prince Andrew.

Princess Diana was also invited to spend Christmas with the Queen after her divorce from Prince Charles, but declined the invite.

The festive celebrations at the royal stately home is a highly traditional affair - with Princess Diana famously finding it stuffy and claustrophobic.

And she may have rooms set aside for her Frogmore Cottage where the Prince Harry and Meghan are moving to at Windsor Castle, but she’s not making a permanent move there.

People also reported that Doria will not be making a permanent move to London, despite previous reports saying she was thinking of flying over to help the former actress after the birth of her first child.

In a statement released by Kensington Palace last month, Doria shared her reaction to her daughter's pregnancy.

“Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle’s ‘rift with dad Thomas is bigger than the Grand Canyon’, royal biographer says.

Meghan vowed to ‘take a risk’ and ‘live a life less stifled’ 18 months before she dated Prince Harry.

And the duchess Markle finds royal life ‘very difficult’ and cannot settle for the alien British world, royal author Penny Junor claims.
