It’s GOOD to row in front of your kids, study finds
The 'not in front of the kids' approach can send conflicting messages and make kids less responsive, study says
PARENTS could help their children by settling differences in front of them.
The “not in front of the kids” approach alerts seven to 11-year-olds there is something wrong and can be confusing, a study claims.
It makes children “less responsive and positive”, research on 109 family groups in San Francisco showed.
Dr Sara Waters, of Washington State University, concluded that it is best to let kids see healthy conflict.
She added: “They are good at picking up emotion cues.
“If they feel something negative has happened, and parents are acting normal, that sends conflicting messages. Let them see the whole trajectory.
“That helps kids learn to regulate their own emotions and solve problems.
"It’s best to let them know you feel angry.”
