Princess Diana’s heartfelt letter telling a fan going through a break up to ‘hang on in there’ tipped to sell at auction for £4k

After receiving a letter from a woman going through a divorce, the 'People's Princess' responded with a heartfelt note urging her to 'hang on in there'

AN EMOTIONAL note written by Princess Diana to a heartbroken member of the public is expected to sell for more than £4,000 at auction later this month.

In November 1995 Princess Diana received a letter from a woman called Erika who confided in the late Royal about her failed marriage.

Immediately showing concern for the woman's wellbeing, Diana responded: "I have received your letter and of course read it with concern and wish to support you in any way I can."

Drawing on experience from her own troubled marriage, Princess Diana poignantly wrote: "I know it takes great courage to write as you did."

The Princess also addressed how "there is a great deal of pain inside of you" following the breakdown of the woman's marriage.

She thoughtfully added: "Reading between the lines of your letter I feel a very special lady is struggling with low-self esteem because of all the bruises you had to deal with, mentally and physically."

Finishing off the heartfelt correspondence, Diana added: "I am thinking of you so much, hang on in there."

Although Princess Diana and Prince Charles' divorce was finalised in August 1996, the Royal couple had already separated when Diana wrote the heartfelt letter.

Diana penned the letter just days after her revealing BBC Panorama interview - where she openly discussed her failed marriage - aired on British screens.

The poignant correspondence has since been acquired by a British Royal collector who is expected to sell the letter for £4,000 at auction on 16 November.

Head of Julien's Auctions Martin Nolan said: "Our understanding is that Erika was a member of the public who was experiencing a troubled time and wrote to Diana for advice and support as she herself had experienced a difficult time with the break up of her marriage.

"Diana is very gracious and compassionate and she offers great encouragement to Erika that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel."

But considering how Diana penned the note during the breakdown of her own marriage, Martin added: "It seems as if she is speaking from her own personal experience when she writes this."

In more Royal Family news, Princess Diana said her sex life with Prince Charles was "very odd" until it eventually just "fizzled out".

And this is how Meghan Markle paid tribute to late mum-in-law Princess Diana with her choice of Royal tour outfits.

Plus Princess Diana once dived into a swimming pool in her dressing gown because she thought Prince William was drowning... but it was all a big joke.
