Meghan Markle made THIS dramatic alteration to a shirt dress to avoid breaking a royal fashion rule

Meghan's style looks a little different to the original

MEGHAN Markle stepped out in a breathtaking blue shirt dress for her second day in Tonga with Prince Harry.

But Meghan's dress - designed by Veronica Beard - appears to be a little different to the original style being sold online.

The £464 shirt dress - which has now sold out - is midi in length and ties at the waist.

And while the original button-up style features two thigh-high slits, Meghan's version appears to be altered.

Pictured attending the unveiling of The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy at Tupou College this week, the slits on Meghan's dress appear to finish just above the knee.

Meghan teamed the design with a pair of Banana Republic heels worth £70.

While there's no rule to say members of the royal family can't have slits in their dresses, it's possible the Duchess was following tradition by opting for a lower split.

It's something that sister-in-law Kate Middleton appears to have also done in the past.

During the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's royal tour to Australia and New Zealand in 2014, Kate Middleton wore a bespoke Catherine Walker dress.

The green belted style was a fusion of the designer's "Evelyn" dress - which is almost identical to Kate's but features a low-cut neck and her "Lara" coat which high-neck, zip scuba collar.
