The Queen refused to meet ‘unmarriageable’ Camilla and vowed ‘I will not have THAT woman in my presence’ when she first dated Prince Charles
According to royal biographer Christopher Wilson, Camilla was reportedly banned from meeting the Queen
THEY might be married now, but according to royal biographer Christopher Wilson, Prince Charles' wife, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, wasn't always so welcome in the royal family.
When Charles and Camilla began dating in 1972, Camilla was reportedly banned from meeting the Queen.
According to Wilson, the Queen and Prince Philip disapproved of Prince Charles and Camilla's relationship.
Speaking in new documentary, The Royal House of Windsor, Wilson explained: "The Queen and Prince Philip knew everything about Prince Charles’ relationship with Camilla; the Queen said I will not have that woman in my presence.
"The problem with Prince Charles was, you are not supposed to be in love with your mistress, you are supposed to have sex with your mistress, but Charles had fallen in love with Camilla, and that really screwed everything."
According to historian Jane Ridley, the Queen wanted to avoid Prince Charles becoming involved with someone who was "unmarriageable".
"The only thing that the Royal Family wanted to avoid was that the Prince of Wales should become involved in a woman who was un-marriageable from the point of view of the Royal Family, but it seemed this pattern was reappearing," she explained.
The Queen is said to have disliked Camilla due to the fact she had had previous boyfriends before dating Prince Charles.
The report that according to historian Dr Piers Brendon, “It was absolutely vital to have on the throne someone who was a virgin; a future Queen must have no past.”
When their relationship ended in 1973, Camilla ended up marrying Andrew Parker Bowles, one of Prince Charles' polo friends, while Charles married Princess Diana in July 1981.
Camilla and Andrew divorced in 1995 and the now Duchess married Prince Charles a decade later on April 9 2005.
Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris, on August 31 1997.
