Harry Potter fans reveal sweet meaning behind Draco Malfoy’s mum’s name… and it changes everything
Thought you knew everything there was to know about Harry Potter? Think again
WHEN it comes to all things Harry Potter-related, us muggles tend to know our stuff.
But now diehard Potterheads appear to have figured out the super sweet meaning behind Narcissa Malfoy's name... and it makes total sense to us now.
As we all already know, Narcissa Malfoy was incredibly protective of her only son Draco - especially in the final instalment of the franchise.
When Harry appears to lose his battle with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, Narcissa is the one who checks that "the boy who lived" is actually dead.
Using this as an opportunity to ensure Draco is safely back at Hogwarts, Narcissa lies to her fellow Death Eaters and declares Harry's death.
And based off this crucial moment of motherly love, Potterheads have now pointed out the surprising similarity between Narcissa Malfoy and Harry's mother Lily Potter... and it looks like the clue was in the name all along.
Instead, she was "named after a flower, like Lily" which draws a neat parallel in how Harry was once again "saved by a mother's love".
Only this time, the mother in question was acting out of love for her son Draco rather than Harry himself.
As superfans will remember, Dumbledore tells Harry in the first instalment: "Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love."
However, fans have long speculated that Narcissa Malfoy and Lily Potter were in some way related.
During a 2004 interview with the BBC, JK Rowling admitted that the constellation theme within the Black family "is just one of those traditions, although Narcissa breaks the trend".
Acknowledging that "there's been speculation that she is in some way linked to Lily and Petunia [Harry's cruel aunt] because of the flower theme, the author insisted "she isn't related to them".
But that doesn't mean the two women aren't linked by their unfaltering maternal instinct and flower-themed names... maybe Narcissa wasn't so bad after all.
